Portland families are able to recycle many items, and the city makes it simple. There are two recycling bins. The small recycling bin is for glass, and the large recycling bin is for all other recyclable items. Portland families can fill the small recycling bin each week with glass items like pasta sauce jars, wine bottles, soy sauce jars, peanut butter jars and pickle jars.

Families just need to remove any lids and rinse the containers before placing them in the recycling bins.Is this new to you? Catch up here The lids can be placed in the large recycling bin. Glass items like bake ware, eye glasses, broken glass, light bulbs, mirrors and drinking glasses cannot be recycled in the home recycling program. Some of these items can be taken to other recycling facilities that accept them.

Recyclable metal, plastic and paper products can be placed in the large recycling bin. Portland families can recycle paper items like newspapers, corrugated cardboard that has been flattened, magazines, catalogs, phone books, junk mail, scrap paper, paper bags, cereal, cookie and shoe boxes, wrapping paper, cards, paper labels from cans and paper towel rolls. Metal items like steel and aluminum cans, nails, rinsed aluminum foil, empty aerosol cans can be recycled.
